Small farm
The Black Bear Food Guild is a 2-acre farm that was established in 1994 by undergraduate students in the Sustainable Agriculture program, and serves as the University of Maine's student farm. It is just a stone's throw from the main campus in Orono, adjacent to the Rogers Farm (the University's experimental station). The farm provides a unique hands-on learning experience for students in the program and is overseen by Dr. Eric Gallandt, a professor of weed ecology and management. One of his graduate students, Johnny Sanchez, is leading the project at the Food Guild this year.
