Organic Weed Management
Mechanical weed control tools often deliver suboptimal and highly variable effects on weed populations.
Our past work has found that “stacking” tools – ie, using multiple intrarow implements – can lead to increased efficacy; certain implement combinations can even have a synergistic effect, where efficacy of the combination exceeds the additive effect of each individual tool.
We hypothesize that using these stacked tools in combination with weed seedbank management practices will lead to greater, and less variable, weed mortality.
On Farm Testing
As part of this project, we plan to conduct on-farm experiments at 7 different farms each year of the project (2019-2022), in both the Northeast and Midwest (totaling 56 farms).
